First heard in 1974, London Music Radio was one of the many landbased 'pirate' stations that could heard on medium wave (as AM used to be called!) every Sunday. I joined the station in 1976 and, along with others whose names will feature throughout this web site, stayed through what was arguably the stations heyday. I'll add more as time permits along with photos and possibly some audio.
If you would like to find out more about this part of the UK's broadcasting history then the DVD below is well worth watching.
"Free Radio - The Story of Clandestine Radio in the UK" is a documentary which tells the story of landbased pirate radio from the late 1960's to the mid 1980's. Radio Kaleidoscope, Radio Jackie, Skyline Radio, London Underground, The LTIR, The Helen Network, Radio Free London and many others are all featured along with recent interviews with some of those involved.
The DVD is narrated by former LMR presenter Steve Hampshire and is available from the Radio Caroline Web Shop.
